Collaboration and Sharing
Objective:
- Teach participants how to collaborate and share Tableau visualizations with others.
- Guide participants in publishing and sharing dashboards to Tableau Server or Tableau Public.
- Provide hands-on experience in creating interactive dashboards for web and mobile consumption.
- Help participants understand security and permissions in Tableau.
7.1 Collaboration Features in Tableau
- Overview of collaboration features in Tableau.
- Sharing workbooks and dashboards with other Tableau users.
- Utilizing comments and annotations for collaborative feedback
Exercise 7.1: Collaborating on a Workbook
- Participants work in pairs or small groups.
- Participants share a workbook with their partner/group and collaborate by adding comments and annotations to provide feedback.
7.2 Publishing Dashboards to Tableau Server
- Introduction to Tableau Server and its role in collaboration.
- Uploading and publishing dashboards to Tableau Server.
- Configuring permissions and security settings for shared dashboards
Exercise 7.2: Publishing a Dashboard to Tableau Server
- Participants use Tableau Server (if available) or a simulated environment to publish their previously created dashboard.
- Participants configure permissions and security settings to control access to the dashboard.
7.3 Sharing Dashboards on Tableau Public
- Overview of Tableau Public and its role in sharing visualizations publicly.
- Uploading and publishing dashboards to Tableau Public.
- Embedding Tableau Public dashboards in websites and blogs
Exercise 7.3: Sharing a Dashboard on Tableau Public
- Participants create a Tableau Public account (if not already available) and publish their dashboard to Tableau Public.
- Participants generate an embed code and embed the dashboard in a sample website or blog.
7.4 Creating Web and Mobile-Friendly Dashboards
- Designing dashboards for web and mobile consumption.
- Optimizing layouts and interactions for different screen sizes.
- Utilizing Tableau's device designer and layout containers.
Exercise 7.4: Creating a Mobile-Friendly Dashboard
- Participants modify their existing dashboard to make it.mobile-friendly using Tableau's device designer and layout containers.
- Participants test and validate the dashboard's responsiveness on different devices.
7.5 Security and Permissions
- Understanding security considerations in Tableau
- Setting user and group permissions on Tableau Server
- Implementing row-level security and data source filters

- Participants work with a simulated security scenario.
- Participants configure user and group permissions, row-level security, and data source filters to enforce security and data access restrictions.
